Hello my Sweat Revival community? I am hoping everyone is as good as one could be during these tough times. I want to apologies for not blogging as of recent. We are all pivoting with each new regulation and scientific breakthroughs with this pandemic. I feel I have navigated this little fitness studio into steady working machine. Thank you all for standing with me as Sweat Revival pivots and evolves.

I want to discuss the topic of self care. You cannot deny so many of life's stressors are hitting us in full force right now. We have turned our homes into offices, schools and gyms. We are now virtual employees, teachers and trainers. The new rolls we have taken on have thrown our lives off course and added stressors. I am here to remind you of YOU!

I am thinking of this quote right now that relates to personal relationships. (those of you who have joined me in the studio have heard this many times) "You are not right for anyone unless you are right for yourself." I have no clue and cannot find who first spoke these words. But thank you whoever you are. I am thinking of this saying purely to emphasize the importance of keeping yourself happy and healthy. Sadly the only one can keep you this way it YOU. You want to be able to care for the ones you love with strength mentally and physically.

Here are some easy tools to take care of YOU.

  1. Mindfulness and meditation- It is easy to practice both of these. Set a timer for 3 minutes and find a comfortable spot to sit upright. Be it cross legged on the floor or in a chair. Start a flow of positive thinking. Think of your bliss. This could be lounging by the river on sunny warm day or a walk through the trees. While you are imagining your bliss breath slowly in through your nose and feel your chest and back inflate with air. Slowly exhale through nose. Continue to imagine the surrounding in your bliss such as warmth on your skin or birds chirping. Continue until the alarm stops you. There are also great meditation apps such as headspace and smiling mind.

  2. Exercise!!!-“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't.” - Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) Exercise isn't just looking good and having muscles. It is a great tool for your heart and soul. It is easy to exercise. There is a great video you can do in your home on this blog. Hit a local trail and get your bliss with a walk in the trees or sunshine. All you need is 20 minutes. You can also hire a personal trainer... wink wink.

  3. Try something new- You know there is always something you wanted to try. The engagement of trying something new creates dopamine in your brain which can help you with mood and energy. Dopamine is the pleasure creator. Trying something new can be very easy. Easy as planting a garden or learning how to cook with a wok. I have a current client who is learning how to do Olympic Style lifting. She lights up when we learn a new skill.

  4. Treat yourself- This could be anything you desire. Treat yourself to a good book. I just finished "Notorious RBG Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg" by Iran Carmon and, Shana Knizhnik. I am about to start "Where the Crawdad's Sing" by Delia Owens. Take your book into a nice bath and relax with some tea. I recently took a bath with a CBD bath bomb and it was just lovely.
